Keeping Bees

Indian Blanket honey...

I am making a face in this picture, but that is only because I am trying to get the hang of cutting the wax cappings off evenly without gouging the foundation.  This was beautiful honey.... golden yellow, with clean white cappings laid very evenly across the frame.

I was told by my "bee teacher" that an even, uniform distribution of honey meant that the honey came from one main source of flower that the bees had harvested during a honey flow.

If you open a honey super and notice frames with different colored honey, or waves in the depth to which they filled the cells it means that the bees may have experienced a change in the honey flow and switched from one flower to another.

He identified the flowers that were used to make my honey as Indian Blanket or Galliardia Pulchella.
