Raising our own dairy, bee and garden products.  Teaching classes and workshops on how to be a successful backyard farmer.

ABOUT TRUDY

I operate a seasonal a home dairy where I milk Jersey cows, and Nubian and Saanen goats.  The milk, cream, and herbs from the garden are used in my natural soaps and gourmet cheeses.

The vegetable garden is a favorite space of mine.  I grow many heirloom varieties with an emphasis on ones grown for taste and adaption to our Texas climate and soils.

Last year was my first foray into raising pastured broilers for the table.  I will be continuing that this year as well as expanding with heritage turkeys.

Education and Memberships

I have a bachelor of science degree in Sociology, and I am at work on a Masters of Education in Agriculture.  I am a master gardener and member of the Grayson County Master Gardeners Association.  Beekeeping is another activity I keep busy with, and I am a member of the Collin County Hobby Beekeepers Association.

I am an enthusiastic advocate for small scale, sustainable food production as promoted by groups such as Slow Food USA and the grassroots Eat Local movement.  Although not everyone has the acreage to raise food on a large scale, I am a firm believer that most people have the opportunity to farm in their own backyard and raise much of their own groceries.
